And with the new year so begins a new project! Last fall I collaborated with Paris based brand Atypique Atypico to create a lovely textile design for the inner lining of their eco-friendly trench coats. I've been hooked on textile and surface design ever since! I wanted to find a project not only to grow my pattern design portfolio, but also to challenge myself creatively!
I've chosen the city of Paris, my current city, as the theme for this project. For the past 4 months or so, I had been feeling disenchanted with the city. Maybe it's the gray skies, maybe it's the beige buildings, maybe it's winter or I just need to leave the city more; whatever it is i've been feeling rather drab about my surroundings (it's why I use so much color in my art). I want see the charm in Paris again and so it is for that reason i'll be using it as my inspiration.
These pieces can be inspired by anything I find in the city. Places, textures, language, colors, objects, and foods are all up for grabs!
First subject: The Tuileries!
The Tuileries is a famous Paris garden located right next to the Louvre. It's such a lovely park to visit in the spring, summer and fall months. One of my favorite things to do there is to grab one of their iconic green park lounge chairs and nap next to the grand fountain. It's also great for people watching. A fun french fair pops up every summer and is open during the day as well as at night.
Using a photo of wildflowers I took a couple of springs ago, I gathered color inspiration, shapes and textures. I decided to use the blue, purple, green and dark red colors from the palette to start.
I want this collection of patterns to have a hand-crafted aesthetic to them, so one can tell they were made by a human hand. I plan to use many different techniques and mediums to achieve these pieces!
Materials: Paper, drawing pen, photoshop
Below are my patterns!
I really enjoyed creating these! I'm looking forward to seeing where this project goes and to see my style develop over time :) More to come!
