Prepping your Piece:

Some participants like to prep their piece prior to class! I highly recommend doing this as it will give you a head start. No need to match my design perfectly, feel free to add your own flair! I will be showing how to prep your piece live in class as well :)

Important: Make sure you have received your webinar link prior to class starting in order to be able to join the class live! Once class has started I will be unable to let you in, so please register asap <3

We’re going to be creating a simple color wash for the background of our painting. This will save us time when painting in class!

step 1:

Grab your canvas, some water, a paint brush (oval wash size 1”, 3/4 or 1/2”), a posca pen and a paint color of your choice (I’m using magenta).

step 2:

Dip the tip of your brush in the water.

step 3:

With your damp brush, take a small amount of your paint and mix with the water from your brush. This will water down your paint.

step 4:

Take the watered down paint and cover the entire surface of where you’ll be painting your heart. The goal is to create a washy watercolor effect as a background.

step 5:

Let dry. I recommend using a hair dryer for quicker drying. Make sure to have a hair dryer on hand for the virtual painting session.

step 6: optional

Sometimes, I like to hide positive messages in the backgrounds of my paintings. Since this class is about LOVE, I thought it could be fun to add a loving message in the background of our pieces.

Think of a loving intention you’d like to set for your painting. This can be your favorite poem, a list of all of the things you love about yourself, your favorite love song, quote or religious scripture.

Once your background is dry, use your Posca paint pen to write your loving message, covering the whole piece top to bottom. I wrote “Love triumphs all” in french in my example.

We will be painting over this, but should be able to see our messages peeking through in our finished piece! See you in class <3

Jessi
