Painting a Colorful Mural at my Local Children’s Hospital

I was invited by l’Association Enfants Malades at Hôpital de Hautepierre (my local Strasbourg Children’s Hospital) to host a spring-inspired painting workshop with the children receiving treatment. And what an incredible experience it was!

The children and their families were all invited to collaborate on a temporary mural in the common space and let their artistic voices shine. Together we created a colorful flower field mural to brighten up the space with color and hopeful springtime pep! It was a beautiful experience to come together and create!

My daughter and I created the background in advance by painting rolling hills & fields and a bright blue sky in advance. It was so fun to paint with her and bring her into the experience from the very beginning.

Next, we drew various flowers and butterflies so that the students and their families could paint their own pieces of the vibrant spring garden mural.

Once we arrived, we hung up the colorful background, laid out a bevy of vibrant art supplies, and the art-making session began!

It was so much fun to see everyone take the time for themselves and add their personal artistic touch to our collective piece. I was especially impressed to see kids follow their creative curiosities, express themselves, and boldly play with the glittery materials we had on hand!

It was also fun to see the parents jumping in to create as well. It’s moments of connection like these when I’m always reminded of the power of art, creativity, and color.

To say I left inspired would be an understatement. A special thanks to my friend, Marie, and the team at L’Association Enfants Malades for inviting me! And, of course, thank you to the incredible families who shared your artistic spirit and creativity! I can’t wait to come back. ❤️
